New Jobs on the Block: AWE’s Annual Outdoor Job Fair in Wausau

When it comes to bringing the community together, our signature event takes workforce development out of the office and right into the heart of downtown Wausau. Three years ago, our board teamed up with our regional partners in the Wausau and Marathon County areas to develop an entirely new kind of hiring event: New Jobs on the Block.

Instead of a stuffy indoor conference room, it’s a multi-industry job fair held entirely outdoors on the beautiful 400 Block. It has quickly grown into one of our most successful events, giving local employers a unique, high-visibility platform to connect with job seekers in a relaxed, open-air environment.

  • A True Community Festival Vibe: We don’t just set up tables; we create an event people actually want to attend, featuring local food trucks and a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere.
  • On-the-Spot Workforce Resources: We bring the Department of Workforce Development’s (DWD) Mobile Career Lab directly to the square, providing immediate, on-site support for job seekers.
  • Proven Track Record: Our last event saw over 400 attendees and created a massive surge of local hiring activity.
  • Built-In Networking: Beyond matching job seekers with companies, New Jobs on the Block serves as a premier networking hub where area employers, our workforce board members, and regional resource partners can connect face-to-face.
